Son Of Beast is a wooden coaster situated in Kings Island, Ohio. It is 218ft tall and has a top speed of 78.4mph.

The Son of Beast was originally built with a 118 foot tall vertical loop. Problems encountered during the 2006 season closed the ride for the remainder of the 2006 season. During the 2006/2007 off-season many changes were made, most notable was the removal of the loop. While the loop was not the direct cause of the 2006 problems, removing it allowed lighter trains to be used, which in turn was done to prevent the problems in 2006 from reoccurring.

Until the 2007 season, the Son of Beast used trains built by Premier Rides. The trains were made up of 6 cars and sat 6 riders per car. During the 2005/2006 off season one car from each train was removed, thus shortening them from six to five cars per train. During the 2006/2007 off-season the original Premier Rides trains were replaced with trains purchased from the defunct Myrtle Beach Pavilion Hurricane.

This coaster does look epic.
I personally think this coaster works better with the loop rather that without it.

It was certianly unique but as I put they got rid of it due to problems.

Also, with the loop, it was technically a hybrid coaster and not a wood due to the loop being steel.

I am extreamly curious as to why it has been SBNO (Standing But Not Opperating) since 2009

I have absolutly no idea on why it's been SBNO, it just has been.

Apparntly, this ride was awful though.

It was SBNO since 2009 when a woman died of a blood vessel burst. Now, I THINK that an investigation said SOB was no fault for it, but they never re-opened it. SOB has been taken off the park map and many think it may not ever re-open. Some say that there was too much stress on the wood and that reparing it would cost millions of dollars and others think it might get the Iron Horse treatment like what they did on the Texas Giant.

After a lengthy evaluation of all alternatives, the decision has been made to remove the Son of Beast roller coaster to make room for future park expansion. The dismantling of the ride, which last operated in 2009, will begin later this summer.

Well, Goodbye Son of Beast then. It looked extremly fun even without the loop.

From my management point of view, It is a very good move by the park. It hasn't operated for 3 years and takes up a lot of space. Removing it gives space for more rides.
